Sand Sculptures

I came across a brief articleabout a sand sculpture exhibition taking place in Melbourne but it was difficult to get to any photos. This article here has access to a few photos, they are pretty awesome!

Sahara Cheetah

I am not oblivious to wildlife in Africa but before this morning I hadn't heard of the Sahara Cheetah. Here is the article that I read along with the picture below. They estimate that there may be 200 of them throughout the Sahara but it is difficult to count them as there are only a few photo sightings of them.

This was so awesome! After I saw the first video I watched the other videos and here are three of them...

Sequel Trailers

So a few trailers for upcoming blockbuster sequels have come out recently. A few of them are below.
Pirates 4 - On Stranger Tides

Transformers 3 - Dark of the Moon

This one isn't a trailer but it seems like it should be for "Bad Boys 3" or something especially since it if from Michael Bay - but it is only a commercial for Victoria's Secret - seems like a lot of work to go to for a commercial...

Simon's Cat

I was only recently introduced to the awesomeness of Simon's Cat! Here are a couple of the videos - enjoy!

For those of you who have snowy winters - here is a funny snow version.

I also recommend that you visit the site and watch the "Santa Claws" video.

Jump The Shark

A week or so ago, I read an article about which TV shows have "jumped the shark" and I thought to myself, there is a good Mullet of Blogs posting in this article. It took me some time but here I go.

I wanted to share a few things to begin - what it means to "jump the shark" is that the point when a TV show plot veers into some random direction with absurd stories. Below is the original jumping the shark moment from Happy Days when the Fonz literally jumps the shark!

I know some of the shows I watch have jumped the shark in the past, are any of the shows you currently watch jumping the shark too?

Heisman

For this post I came across subjective list of the top 10 college football seasons that winners of the Heisman Trophy had in the year they won. I was pretty amazed with a few of the stats and some of the videos like the Tony Dorsett one but I was so totally blown away by the Barry Sanders video I had to make this post. The video is below and anyone who understands football or the way Sanders dominated in the NFL for 10 years following his college career, you just can't help but be amazed at his stats from 1988 at Oklahoma State. I haven't followed college football for several years but I can guarantee that whoever wins this year will not even compare to what Sanders did!

Qatar in 2022!

Qatar was awarded the World Cup for 2022 earlier today. I found this great little video about the first 5 stadiums that they will build and an article about another stadium they will build on a man-made island! Pretty cool, if you can get past the fact that this is a northern hemisphere summer event that will take place in an insanely hot location.

Holiday Lights

Hey everyone, now that Thanksgiving is over and everyone is out shopping, when they return they will begin to setup holiday light displays and though these I am sharing are not new, they are awesome Trans-Siberian Orchestra musical displays (side note: I am really disappointed that they are not coming to the Puget Sound area this year). Enjoy the videos!

Flying Snakes

Even though I didn't see the movie Snakes on a Plane (looked kinda silly) I guess flying snakes can be cool, and maybe even a little scary. Today I read an article about actual flying snakes.
It was a really cool article and the video is fun but beware, something more scary than flying snakes might happen if you read the article and watch the video - you might learn something! Yikes, learning on the Mullet of Blogs, what will happen next?

More Space Views

I just found this article about a set of windows on the International Space Station and some of the pretty amazing pictures taken from this vantage point. This is a little more high-tech than the balloon and paper airplane setup from the earlier post but both are pretty impressive. Below is one of the pictures, showing an astronaut leaning on the viewing area.
If that wasn't enough, here is another picture. This one is of Egypt and the string of lights down the middle is the Nile river valley.

Paper Plane in Space!

When I was younger I participated in OM and one of the events I did was on flight. We built various types of aircraft to accomplish different feats like stay in the air the longest, fly the farthest with a set amount of force, etc. Now just barely 20 years later a few people launched a paper airplane into space! They did this with the help of a helium balloon and at 3-feet wide the plane is considerably larger than what I was working on in elementary school. Here is the article about this along with the photos that the camera that was attached to the plane took. The photo above is one of them. I think it is pretty awesome that they did this, don't you?

Totally Awesome!

I saw this article about how a 15 story hotel was built in only 6 days, I was interested, so I read it! Pretty simple huh? Now wrapping your mind around any construction project you see try to imagine anything being done in a matter of days let alone weeks. I have been watching a remodel of a grocery store near my house for over 2 months and the demolition and reconstruction of another grocery store nearby also for 3 months. Neither project has made any great progress in a matter of days, though the tear-down of the one store was pretty quick, about 3-4 days and another week+ to haul away the debris. Now that you have read my examples and thought of your own, read the article I linked above, it is very brief and then watch the video posted here below. Enjoy!

Lite-Brite Video

This is a really impressive music video that was done with a Lite-Brite. Another really amazing music video was in a post earlier this year on the Mullet of Blogs. I found this video in a piece I read this afternoon, here. Enjoy!

Climb Dance

Before Gran Turismo video games or any of the ultra graphics systems and games that have come around in the last few years, there was film and television. This 1989 5-minute film is really fun and I just couldn't look away. This is the Pikes Peak race to the top of the 14000+ foot peak. Just watch and enjoy!

Train Set - Awesome Train Set!

This is pretty darn awesome! I got the text of this post and the pictures out of an email that was forwarded to me and there is a video at the end that is really a must-see.

This is the world's biggest train set.Covers 1,150 square meters / 12,380 square feet…Features almost six miles of track and is still not complete…Twin brothers Frederick and Gerrit Braun, 41, began work on the 'Miniatur Wunderland' in 2000. The set covers six regions including America , Switzerland , Scandinavia , Germany , and the Austrian AlpsThe American section features giant models of the Rocky Mountains, Everglades , Grand-Canyon etc…...and Mount RushmoreThe Swiss section has a mini-Matterhorn The Scandinavian part has a 4ft long passenger ship floating in a 'fjord' It is expected to be finished in 2014, when the train set will cover more than 1,800 square meters / (19,376 sq ft) and feature almost 13 miles of track, by which time detailed models of parts of France, Italy and the UK will have been added…It comprises 700 trains with more than 10,000 carriages and wagons The longest train is 46ft long The scenery includes 900 signals, 2,800 buildings, 4,000 cars - many with illuminated headlights... ...and 160,000 individually designed figures Thousands of kilograms of steel and wood was used to construct the scenery... The 250,000 lights are rigged up to a system that mimics night and day by automatically turning them on and off The whole system is controlled from a massive high-tech nerve centre In total the set has taken 500,000 hours and more than 8 million euro to put together, the vast majority of which has come from ticket sales Here is a video from their website that is pretty darn cool as well!

Gaga v. Bieber - Battle Royal

Some of the long-time Mullet readers will remember when there were several postings in the first couple of months of the blog that were about Lady Gaga. It has been a long time but she will once again grace the Mullet of Blogs with her presence today.

I read an article today about how she has reached 1 billion views on youtube. I know that you dedicated Mullet readers out there will click the link and read about it but for those of you who want the highlights, you must know that I will share them anyway.

Gaga has over 1 billion views and Justin Bieber is right on her heels with 965 million. The author of the article goes on to share other comparisons like their twitter followers, facebook likes and albums sold, etc. If you are interested in those monumentally important numbers you will have to read the article.

So in this battle royal between pop stars, who is your favorite?

Microphotos

For this post, I wavered on whether to post it to No-Profundity or here at the Mullet of Blogs. I settled on it here after I saw all of the mircophoto pictures and realized how awesome they are. Below is one of the pictures and if you want to know what it is you will need to follow this link and see the rest of the photos. You won't be disappointed!

Fast Car! Wow!

So what is a fast car? A Corvette, a Ferrari, a Lamborghini...a Bugatti! Yesterday I read about this car from Bugatti.

I really enjoyed the article because it gave some history about the Bugatti brand and how they have traded the speed record over the last few years and now hold it again after their Veyron record was passed a few years ago.

Since not all of you will read the article here are a few crazy stats.

Cost - $2.8 million

0-60 - 2.5 seconds

0-186 - 14.6 seconds (really, that is ridiculous!)

1200 horsepower, just over 4000lbs.

The article was good so I encourage you to read it!

Football Season

Now that both the professional and college football seasons are well under way I thought I might post the best football video I have seen online. I saw this last year and shared it with a few people but now it is time to put it on the Mullet of Blogs. Here is a link to the artcle that goes along with the video and it explains more about what is happening.

Big Pink Diamond!

Fancy colored diamonds are much more valuable than their clear counterparts that you find in jewelry stores. Some of these colors are much more prized than even the colorless stones that you see and hear about in the 4Cs of diamond buying. I read this piece about a nearly 25 carat pink diamond yesterday. What is more awesome than a huge pink diamond, you might ask? I will answer with the impressive expected auction price range of $27-38 million!
A brief internet search provided me a couple of comparisons, Paris Hilton received a 24 carat (similar size) canary diamond worth about $5 million from Paris Latsis, underscoring the rarity of the pink color since the canary is another fancy colored stone. Even the 6 carat pink diamond Ben Affleck gave J-Lo was only worth about 1.2 million.
Fancy red and fancy green colored diamonds are more rare than the pink stones but pink diamonds only come from one mine in the world.

La NiƱa

I keep hearing how we are going to have an interesting winter because of La NiƱa but every time I hear this, I think of the more commonly known El NiƱo. Consequently when I think of El NiƱo I think of Chris Farley and this SNL skit below. I hope you enjoy it even though it is very short.

Death Ray

Did the title of the post get your attention? When I saw an article about a "death ray" it got my attention and I decided to read it. One of the newest additions to the hotel skyline of Las Vegas is the Vdara hotel, part of City Center. This building has a concave design and apparently when its face is toward the sun, it acts to focus the sun's glare. This is similar to how some solar power plants operate.
According to the article, the designers of the building foresaw this happening so they put a protective film over the building facade. I thought it was funny (a little) when they mentioned that the beam of sun from the building can burn hair and melt plastic bags.

Just a fun article for The Mullet but the heat generated from this made me think about how you can cook an egg on a sidewalk if it is hot enough so maybe they should put an omelette bar out there by the pool! Maybe the "death ray" will work better than the pavement does though?

Bahia Emerald

This story is not profound so it could easily be part of No-Profundity but as you will see and find out, an 800+ lb emerald is definitely something for the Mullet of Blogs.
This is not the largest cut or polished emerald in the world, obviously, as you can see from the picture above. The article I read that literally "unearthed" this topic for me is here. I found myself chuckling when I read about the legal proceedings about the ownership of this emerald and the one man who testified that he purchased it for $60000, while the value has been reported to be more than 380 million dollars. That was a tough story to swallow, but I guess there has been weirder stories, I can't think of any at the moment but they probably exist.

Two Months Early

Today, it appears I am being bombarded by Harry Potter trailers. There was an HD trailer with information from Fandango in my email this morning and I also came across a different trailer. Both of them are here, so enjoy them but don't get too excited, the movie doesn't open for nearly 2 months!

The HD version is at this link.

Heights! Yikes!

WARNING!!! DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF HEIGHTS!

So with that warning to begin with, I saw this video today and I thought it was so awesome, there was no way I could avoid sharing it. I like being inside of buildings at high places for viewpoints but I would never do this. I would be nervous climbing a telephone pole in my neighborhood, but I will probably never have to try that.

While I watched this video, I was unable to look away, it was very engrossing and I can admit that I ended up getting sweaty hands while watching so I am not a candidate for this type of work.

I hope that those of you who are not afraid of heights will enjoy this video and for those who are afraid, I hope that if you do watch it against the warning I posted that you enjoy it and remember that you are safe sitting in your chair in front of your computer screen.

Tiny Cow

This give "have a cow" a whole new meaning, in this case "have a mini-cow!"

In England, there is a cow that measures only 33 inches long...that is less than a regular human stride length.

The cow is named Swallow and is 11 years old. Here is a brief article that also has a picture.

3-D Speedbump

This is really weird and really awesome. I read this very interesting article about an alternative to speedbumps. At a school in Canada they have painted an elongated picture of a child on the pavement, which as you drive toward it appears as a 3-D optical illusion, hopefully getting drivers to brake not to hit the phantom child.
Now, imagine the possibilities for this...I am envisioning advertisements painted in parking garages (which is what this picture looks like) so drivers coming and going will see some brand name image pop-up in front of them.

I think the best part of it all is that the painted child is named "Pavement Patty!" Hahahahaha!

Maybe painting something that won't create emergency stops and rear-end collisions might have been a little better? I can imagine a bunch of things that might be more appropriate but I am sure this will get the message across to drivers.

Fire Tornado

Behold the awesome spectacle and power of fire and wind! Ok, that was probably unnecessary but a fire tornado is still pretty cool and it echoes the title of the article I found this in. The video below has a few seconds of footage of one of these rare occurrences. Here is the article link where I found the video.

Awesome Burgers

So eating one of these might not be healthy, but it might just be really yummy! I read this piece about burger wars heating up. They talked about a Krispy Kreme Burger!!! I thought that it sounded interesting but I can't quite wrap my mind around it.
They also mentioned that Five Guys Burgers & Fries were on the rise and there was one of these near where I used to live and I never went, I guess I will have to make a special trip.
Here in Seattle there are a few places with burger reputations but I haven't been to them so I will just pass on the names - Redmill, Lunchbox Laboratory(their old website was much more fun and informative) and The Counter!
I know there are more in Seattle, let alone anywhere but

Meal in a can! Candwich, perhaps?

I watched this video today and had to share it! It is about a fellow who had the idea of putting a sandwich inside a can and then whenever the can was opened there would be a fresh sandwich ready to be eaten, pretty great idea, huh?

After a little more research I found out that this product is held up in some legal proceedings but I think it will be interesting. Now, how about a pancake in a can?

Back to the Candwich for a moment, here is a print article about the product just like the picture at the top of the page.

Berlitz Commercials

A group member of mine in one of my classes came across this first video, which is a commercial for Berlitz language courses and I thought it was so funny! I have found a few others also and posted them here too! Enjoy!

Dolphin Bubbles

A friend shared a video of this with me earlier this week but I have finally just had a chance to post something about this. I think these bubbles are pretty cool and definitely a good way for the dolphins to entertain themselves!

Battle at Kruger

This morning I saw a video of an Gator feeding frenzy, which made me think about this video I watched 3 years ago. It is pretty amazing!

The Expendables

OK, back to videos - yesterday I saw a trailer for the Expendables so it made me look for another one today. If this doesn't end up being a really great action movie, I don't know what it will take...

Stallone, Schwarzanegger, Willis, Statham, Li, Rourke, Lundgren etc.

Most Expensive

As I have mentioned in the past, a lot of the posts on the Mullet have become video based so I will have a text post today. There is a picture though!

On a whim, I found a website called Most Expensive and it has a bunch of categories after that. Here is the most expensive production car in the world, the Bugatti Veyron:

Q: How much did the most expensive bicycle in the world sell for?

$75000 - $114000 - $500000

Check out the answer here!

Some of the posts are dated a little bit but here is the most expensive cruise destination, bottles of wine and doghouse!

Fast Mario Win

I saw this video in 2007 and it was so fun, though it is 11 minutes long, that I went and got my old original Nintendo out and started playing some. I had some free time on my hands that year. It is pretty cool to watch and it makes me think about how much "Nintendo Thumb" the person playing this had based on all of their practice and for some of the things in the video they do.

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

World's Largest Skateboard

OK, I posted the video on the Human Show as well as here. This is about the world's largest skateboard, which is 36 feet, 7 inches long, 9 feet wide and weighs nearly 2 tons!!!

Here is the link to the article I read and the video is below. I will let you read the article for more details and the video is actually pretty cool, with a big wipeout for the rider!

Ketchup Bottle Analogy

OK, this morning I wasn't really thinking of anything for the Mullet of Blogs but I read a brief article about how we are expecting near record high temps for the next few days here in Seattle. I understand the rest of the country is always in a heatwave during the summer and we have been (possibly) misguidedly unhappy with our cool temps so far. Anyway, here is the important part of the post. The writer used an awesome analogy, when I say it is awesome, I mean that it is creative, inventive, a bit abnormal, but pretty much an awesome analogy.

Here it is, the first couple paragraphs of the article and the article link is above:

"Ever tried to use a bottle of ketchup on, say, a hot dog, and you mightily whack, shake and jiggle the bottle but no matter what you do, that ketchup won't budge -- until several moments later it finally does let loose and you get a massive blob of ketchup that spills all over everything?

Picture that ketchup as this year's missing warmth -- bottled up in May and June (and early July) to where we've seen just 11 days at 70 or warmer and just one "warm" day at 77 degrees.

But it seems after weeks and weeks of rattling, the warmth is finally going to be unleashed in one big goop of hot air."

Eclipse!

Clever headline alert! Ok, so Twilight Eclipse opened yesterday so today there was the inevitable online pieces about how well it did at the box office. Enter the clever headline: "'Twilight' eclipses record with $68.5M debut." So it wasnt the best opening ever, that is held by the second twilight movie. It is the best Wednesday opening.

OK, some of you may be wondering why this is on the Mullet of Blogs - Answer: whether you love twilight and therefore think it is awesome (appropriate for the blog) or dislike the saga, you get lots of chances to make fun of it (also appropriate for the blog). See, everyone goes home happy!

Harry Potter

OK, so I am running about 5 months ahead with this post and many times I am months behind so I guess that means when you average them out I am right on time. Here is the new trailer for The Deathly Hallows!

Just for fun, here is one of the trailers from 9 years ago for the first movie!

Blues Brothers!!!

OK, I have always loved the Blues Brothers movie, I even enjoyed Blues Brothers 2000 (though the best part of it was the all-star blues jam session at the end). An article headline caught my attention today and how could I not share it here on the Mullet of Blogs? The article was titled "Vatican Endorses The Blues Brothers." Apparently those in the Holy See are up on their 30 year old pop culture! Apparently since it is the 30th anniversary of the release of the movie they declared it a "Catholic classic" and have even added it to a recommended viewing list for Catholics!

Other films on the recommended list include "The Ten Commandments," "The Passion of The Christ," and "It's a Wonderful Life."

World Cup Weekend!

To begin World Cup Weekend here at the Mullet of Blogs I will share a video of 10 goals from the 2006 world cup! Setting aside my affinity for the English national team I still think that Ashley Cole's goal is the best of this set of 10.

Father's Day Ideas

As Father's Day is approaching my email inbox is being flooded by retailers of all sorts with their best Dad themed items and the sales and free shipping offers they have going on. one of my favorite websites, thinkgeek is doing this as well. The first featured item in the email made me think, "hey there may be a blog post in here somewhere" and there is!

Here is the first item, it is titled Awesomeness Hot Sauce! Could you get a better name? I think not!
Here are three sets of cufflinks (only two are pictured) in case Dad needs some fashion with function:
And how could it be a posting about Father's Day gifts without mentioning a "Grow Your Own Beer Garden?"

Remix crazy

So. Listening, as always (must endure workplace and wheezy whiny seatmate) to streaming dance music. Currently playing: a remix of the Cranberries "Zombie".

Now, you have to know that I had a whole period in middle school where I was really obsessed with the IRA. Not necessarily in a "I need to support this violence" way, but in a "this is fascinating and these are kind of my people and ooh, political and ethnic conflict, I want to understand". I read a lot of enormously thick books (many of which, looking back, were intensely partisan, ha, Tim Pat Coogan) and did a report for a social studies class that was about twice the necessary length.

So the song is about IRA/Northern Ireland conflict and violence, and is really a lament.  I listened to it constantly for months--I'm not sure I could even name another song on that album.  I found it...disconcerting...as a dance/techno remix.  Then I looked up "Cranberries Zombie remix" on youtube and discovered that not only are there several remixes, a couple seem to take the song at an Amelia Bedelia level of literal.

This one features xkcd-esque stick figures and a zombie kitten, and is possibly the most sophisticated of the ones I checked out:

Now the original is a bit abstract (gold egyptian Dolores?) but it's clearly angsty and not rotting flesh-y (VEVO link so there might be an ad, sorry):

I don't necessarily find this inappropriate, but it's weird.  Creative transformation, it's everywhere, and sometimes disconcerting.

I'm a little afraid to go look for remixes of "Sunday Bloody Sunday".

...Oh man.  Some people are seriously dedicated.  George Bush "sings" it:

Barney Continued!

OK, I skipped a day of the partial Barney Stinson Week to necessarily celebrate National Donut Day, yesterday.

Here is a video that I think provides a fitting ending to Barney Stinson Week at the Mullet of Blogs.

National Donut Day!

Today is National Donut Day, which occurs on the first Friday of June each year!!!

In my research on this topic I found that all of the regional variations listed on Wikipedia were very interesting since there were so many national varieties.

Locally, Top Pot Doughnuts were featured on the Travel Channel, which you can see in this video.

Happy Donut Day!!!!!

Barney's Video Resume

To make up for yesterday's missed post, here is the second post for today. It is necessary to view Barney's Video Resume!

Here is the Barney Stinson fan site.

No pictures or videos in the blog so you will need to follow the video resume link!!!

Go for Barney!!!!

Oops, I skipped a day!

I will continue with Barney Stinson week with a post this morning. Just to share some of the AWESOME posters that barney has in his office and others that people on the net have made up.

Barney Stinson Week

It is a short week here at the Mullet of Blogs due to the Memorial Day weekend. Since there is too much to share about Barney Stinson in one post but possibly not enough to fill an entire 5-day week, this is the perfect opportunity to share this AWESOME character from the CBS television show, How I Met Your Mother.

I will begin today with sharing Barney's Blog, since I am a budding blogger myself!

Here are a couple of snippets from recent entries, try to tell me these aren't AWESOME!!!

NO KIDS UNTIL YOU’RE AT LEAST 45.
Here’s why.
• Studies have shown that human hearing starts to fade the instant you turn 45 so children won’t be as obnoxiously loud.
• After you turn 45 your game will naturally start to fade. Having a kid at that point gives you a prop that will help pick up chicks.
• According to the approved younger chick formula (your age / 2 + 7), when you turn 45 you can no longer hook up with a chick in her 20’s. Since the dream is over you might as well crank out a munchkin.
• Having a kid before you turn 45 means devoting much of your precious time to caring for and/or paying for it. After 45 what are you really doing with your time other than wishing you were younger?
• The longer you wait to have a kid the more likely you’ll be changing your baby’s diapers at the same time you have to change your own. While that may not sound ideal it will drastically reduce the amount of time you spend in your life dealing with poop.

Here’s a sampling of the eighty-three simple to follow guidelines I presented to Marshall and Lily:
1. You promise to always love me more than the baby.
2. Once a month I get to use the baby to pick up chicks.
3. That may involve the baby falling from a two story window and me heroically catching it.
4. No breastfeeding in front of me.
5. Forget about 4, it’s cool.
10. It’s middle name must be Barney.
14. Lily has to lose the baby weight by bikini season.
17. If I’m hungry you have to feed me first.
25. Never ask me to babysit.
25a. All babysitters you use must be female, hot, and of age.

Today is Martin Luther King Day; he was a pretty awesome bro. He taught us to have dreams and stuff. So I thought I’d share with you mine:
I Have A Dream
I have a dream that one day all bros will rise up and live out the true meaning of their creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident - that all are boobs are created pretty good."
I have a dream that one day black and white chicks will come together in my bed.
I have a dream that all peoples of this great nation will suit up together and that polyester will be abolished forever.
I have a dream that one day, all tee-shirts will be wet and boob jobs will be free.
I have a dream that there will be a television network that shows only “Predator” 24 hours a day.
I have a dream that feels like I’m falling and then I wake up before I hit the ground. It happens a lot. Should I see a doctor or something?
I have a dream that babies don’t cry on planes, that men don’t wear Uggs, that “second base” replaces the handshake, that girls leave when you’re done, that there are no waits for cabs, that I can look at a woman’s chest area without getting a dirty look. Yeah, you wore that blouse because you don’t want me to look there.
I have a dream.

BIG Crystals!!!

As promised during my most recent post, this post will not have a video. There are videos available if you follow some of the links in this post though! Today I want to share about some truly GIANT crystals. These are colossal gypsum crystals in the Naica mine in Mexico. I have found several articles about these in the past.

The crystals are over 30 feet long and can weigh over 50 tons. They are found over 900 feet deep in a huge mine that primarily yields silver, zinc and lead. The areas where the crystals are was previously filled with water but it has been pumped out while the mining operation goes on. The cave these are in is near an underground magma chamber so it is extremely hot inside, 120-140 degrees fahrenheit and high humidity. The people in the picture at top are wearing cooling suits so they don't overheat. Please follow the linked pictures or here to see more about these awesome crystals! Here is another blog about these from a couple of years ago and there are more pictures too!

Not Another Video...

I know some of you are thinking, why is another video being posted? I have been thinking about that lately too. I just recently have had a number of videos come to my attention or that I have happened to find that I found exceptionally entertaining. Today I am doing the same, I am posting a couple of videos that I feel have exceptional entertainment value as well as being AWESOME!

I promise that the next post to the Mullet will be more substantive but for now, I have set the hurdle very low for you to clear in order to enjoy the post today!

Oil Spill in America.

I heard part of this on the radio in the car this morning so I had to rush to a computer, look up the video and share it with EVERYONE!!! A major highlight for me in this is the Jon Stewart - West Side Story Parody Songbook! And is someone or something trying to kill New Orleans?

Enjoy!

Gaga or Parody?

Some of Lady Gaga's videos are hard to believe that they aren't "Weird Al" style parodies but here is an original from Gaga that is an epic in the Michael Jackson Thriller tradition!!! I have included a parody version from some troops in Afghanistan as well as a Muppets version. I have to admit that all have a sufficiently high level of entertainment value to be included in the posts of the Mullet of Blogs!!!!!!!!!!

You absolutely have to watch all three!!!!!!!!!!! (10 Exclamation Points!)

It's Earth Day!

In the spirit of photography and light, I am posting about light from human populations. Light pollution may be a serious problem in many cities, and the energy used to power our large and tiny anthills may be slowly poisoning us all, but seriously, it's all about the pretty.

This image was created by the UN from composite satellite pictures. I think this one is the real light coming from the earth, recorded with a long exposure. Satellites are moving, of course, so taking a picture with a long exposure is challenging. So some guy built a thing that compensates. Check out this website for a more scientific explanation. The sciency bit is partway down, and there are some other pictures.
This one is awesome, it looks like some sort of blobby/tentatcle monster:

EUROPE WILL EAT YOUR SOUL.

It's fascinating to look at different areas of the globe and different cities and see what you can figure out from the light distribution at night.

Japan is distinctive because the country uses a light source that emits mercury vapors into the air, causing a green glow. It's pretty eerie, and clearly a sign that this phenomenon needs to be features in a Mothra remake. It's a giant moth! Clearly would be destructively attracted to lights!

Pictures of Cairo show the Nile as a distinctive black line snaking through the city.

Images of Vegas are gorgeous in part because the colored (and extreme in general) lights along the strip look like a strip of scattered jewels in the middle of the city in the middle of the desert.

I am pleased to celebrate Earth Day by celebrating how cool our planet looks from space due to our consumption of natural resources.
